Message to the Home Secretary – response to Lawrence verdict

Home Secretary Rt Hon Theresa May MP,

In light of the historic conclusion to the trial of two men for the murder of Stephen Lawrence and the public reaction to these
developments particularly the black community, furthermore, in light of recent Statistics on Race and the Criminal Justice System.

May I respectfully suggest that thirteen years on, a window of opportunity is now open to the Police Service to examine it’s response to the MacPherson Lawrence 70 Recommendations. I think it would go a long way towards turning this chapter in a dreadful history if you were to use your good offices to urgently reconvene the Home Office Stephen Lawrence Steering Group (established under previous administration) or a similar forum in order to examine and formulate a National Overview of progress since 1999.
