NBPA SALUTE A CHAMPION ON WOMEN’S DAY

The NBPA Salute the contribution of the many women who have been Champions of Justice by paving the way and inspiring generations to challenge prejudice and break down barriers.

One such Champion is Sislin Fay Allen who arrived in England Fifty years ago from Jamaica and later in 1968 became the first black woman to join the Metropolitan Police Service. This was hugely challenging, given that society still held extremely negative attitudes towards women and black people in the British Police Service.

Today the National Black Police Association pays tribute to Sislin by encouraging young Black women to follow in her footsteps and consider a career that is both challenging and rewarding in the struggle for social justice.
