NBPA response to tribunal findings in favour of Black female officer discriminated against by Met Police

The NBPA welcomes the Employment Tribunal’s finding of direct Race and Sex discrimination in favour of PC Howard.

The NBPA is concerned about the way MET officers dealt with PC Howard’s Fairness at Work complaint and calls for misconduct proceedings to be instigated in light of what was found at the tribunal hearing. The question has to be asked, how can this behaviour  be tolerated?

The police service cannot expect the public to have trust and confidence in a police service that deliberately takes steps to cover up the truth”.

Franstine Jones, President of the NBPA said “l hope the MET will learn some lessons from this case and realise that this kind of unprofessional behaviour needs to be dealt with robustly. There needs to be a true commitment to eliminating race and sex discrimination. I hope the MET police will take robust action in relation to these matters”.
